Zakary Adam Walker

Zakary Adam Walker, 10, of Charlton Heights, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at the Hubbard House in Charleston, West Virginia, on June 11, 2026.

Born in Charleston on June 29, 2015, Zakary entered the world with a strength that would define his life. Diagnosed with congenital CMV at birth, he faced numerous complex medical challenges throughout his ten years. Despite the obstacles placed before him, Zakary never allowed his diagnoses to diminish his happiness, spirit, or love for others.

Zakary had a remarkable ability to brighten any room he entered. His infectious smile, joyful personality, and playful charm touched everyone he met. Over the years, he developed a special reputation among the many nurses and other caregivers who cared for him, often flirting with them and trying to win their hearts—a task he was usually successful in accomplishing. Whether in a hospital, doctor's office, or out in the community, Zakary was loved by all who knew him and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to meet him.

In early 2026, Zakary's health began to decline, resulting in multiple hospital stays. After a courageous and hard-fought battle, he was transferred to hospice care, where he spent his final days surrounded by comfort, love, and family.

Zak loved all of his puppies deeply, but he shared an especially special bond with Kiyoshi. They spent countless hours cuddling together in bed, cherishing each other's companionship. No matter what life brought their way, Kiyoshi was always by Zak’s side, watching over him and making sure he always felt safe, comforted, and loved.

Zakary was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Robert Miller; great-great Uncle, John Mays; and great-grandmother, Katherine Ramsey.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Lindsey Walker; his father, Cody Cole; his aunts, Samantha Walker and Catherine Alewine; his uncles, Daniel Alewine, Blake, Cody and Nicholas Coleman; his cousins, RJ, Kimberly and Olivia Alewine, and McKinley and Alex Cottrell; his grandmother, Megan Cottrell; his grandfather, Brandon Cottrell; his great-grandfathers, Grant Ramsey and Terry Cottrell; his great-grandmothers, Betty Miller and Gail Cottrell and many extended family members, friends, caregivers, and medical professionals whose lives were forever touched by his courage, laughter, and love.

Though his time on earth was far too short, Zakary's legacy of resilience, joy, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
