William A. Bates

William “Andy” Bates, 55, of Swiss, West Virginia entered into rest on May 21st, 2024.  He was born March 25th, 1969, to the late Patricia and James Bates of Swiss.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents Patricia and James, and his brothers Terrance Caldwell and Johnny Bates. 

Andy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed any activity involving the outdoors. He especially enjoyed camping trips with his family.  When he wasn’t outside, he would relax while listening to his favorite music and enjoying a cup of coffee. He also enjoyed mechanic work in his free time. He was considered by many to be a “jack of all trades.” He had a fine sense of humor and always tried to make the best out of the many negative situations he faced during his life. 

Andy is survived by his son Jacob Bates of Jodie, daughter Brittany (Dakota) Light of Jodie, his sister Vivian (Larry) Carroll of Swiss, nephews Adam Caldwell, Gavin Caldwell, and Wyatt Davenport of Swiss, and sister-in-law Lisa Bates of Summersville, other cousins and distant relatives.

Andy dearly loved his family and friends, just as much as he was loved by them. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
