Wetzel "Corky" Eugene Harvey

Wetzel Eugene Harvey (Corky), 83 of Jodie, West Virginia, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, after a long illness.

Corky was born on January 13, 1941. He is the son of the late Frank and Maysel Harvey. He has four siblings. Corky was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Harvey; his sister, Faye Caldwell, and survived by his brother, Gary Harvey, his sister Barbara Lair, and his brother Max Harvey. Corky is survived by his wife Judith K. Harvey, whom he married on May 30, 1959. Corky is survived by two sons, Mark Harvey and Craig Harvey (Missy). He was also survived by three grandchildren, Christopher Harvey, Brittany Robertson (Brandy), and Mallory Cox (Kevin). Corky was also survived by one great grandchild, Maddox Cox.

Corky was dedicated to protecting the rights of working men and women. He was a member of Laborers’ Local1353, Charleston, West Virginia, since August 31, 1961. He proudly served his union in many capacities, including Business Manager/Secretary- Treasurer of the West Virginia Laborer’s District Council from 1979 until retirement in 1997. Corky served on various committees and boards throughout his career and was a driving force in the labor movement. During his tenure, he worked countless hours to build a state of the art training facility which has received nationwide recognition. After retiring, Corky went back to work as a Special Representative for LiUNA. He served as Administrator of the West Virginia Laborers’ Health & Welfare Pension Fund from 2000 to 2002.

Corky was a member of Gauley Bridge Masonic Lodge No. 64. He was a Christian and attended Bell Creek and Jodie Baptist Church.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Pennington Smith Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A private family burial will be directly after at Rich Creek Cemetery.
