Virginia Keenan Obituary

Virginia Mae Keenan, 86, a resident of Gauley Bridge, Fayette County, WV, passed away on May 10, 2011, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Keenan was a native of Nicholas County, West Virginia, having been born on July 22, 1924, a daughter of Virgie Skaggs Neil and Ray Neil.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Keenan is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Charles H. Keenan, former mayor of Gauley Bridge and a former member of the West Virginia Legislature; as well as by her brothers, Rufus V. Neil and Omar R. Neil; her sister, Onor L. Harford and a son, Charles Andy Keenan.
Mrs. Keenan is survived by her loving and devoted sister, Beulah H. Brown; her daughter, Carolyn Burton and her husband, Joe, of Orlando, FL; her son, James W. Keenan and his wife, Desiree, of Fayetteville, WV; grandchildren and their spouses, Wendla and Dave Boddy, Virginia and Chad Beatty, Ehrrin Keenan, Drew Keenan, Benjamin and Thelma Keenan, Charles Keenan and Brad Keenan; 8 great-grandchildren;, brother-in-law, James Harford; sisters-in-law, Laura Neil and Carole Keenan; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, in addition to her many friends of Gauley Bridge and elsewhere.
Mrs. Keenan was a Protestant, having been a member of the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a retired employee of Kroger Co. with 27 years of service. She was also a member of the Gauley Bridge Eastern Star, Kanuga Club, Gauley Garden Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
At the time of her passing, Mrs. Keenan was a resident of The Summit of Oak Hill, WV.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the personnel at The Summit, Saint Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV, and Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV, whose compassion and care of Mrs. Keenan was of great comfort to her at the time of her death.
Since Virginia was a long-term diabetic, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, WV Branch, 960 Penn Avenue, Suite 1000, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
Funeral service will be 1 pm Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Gauley Bridge Baptist Church with Rev. Clare Sulgit-Horn officiating, assisted by Pastor Craig Gee. Burial will follow in the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, and one hour prior to the service at the Church.
