Sonjie Naomi Childers Brown born September 13, 1940, to the late Carl H. and Helen Taylor Childers, was called to her heavenly home on February 17, 2024, where she was undoubtedly met with open arms by her one true eternal love Paul H. Brown.
Sonjie had a very full life dash. She whole heartedly loved her family and was very active in the community as a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4419 Auxiliary, beloved member of the Woman’s Club of Gassaway, Clay Lions Club, regularly attended Ida Missionary Baptist Church, supported every sporting event of her grand and great grandchildren including being known as the ‘Dance Team Grandma’, and traveled around the state to many gospels sings.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Susie Pierson, Sandra Sparks, Jim Childers, Dallas Childers, Grandson, Paul Allen Brown Jr and Great Grandchildren, Olivia Cliver and Xyler Brown. Also, lifelong best friend, Pearl Legg.
Sonjie is survived by sisters – Sharon & Lynn Young, Rebecca & Tim Abbott, SnowFern & Carlos Doss, and Sharlene & Eddie Glenn. Children – Darlene & Mike Cliver, Wanda & Tim White, Paula & CK Meadows. Grandchildren – Alex & Heather Brown, Jamie & Jaime Brown, Heath Cliver, Joey & Donna Brown, Miriam ‘Blondie’ Cliver & Brandon Prange, Kenton III ‘Precious’ & Toni Meadows, Kathryn Moore, Kristen ‘Pretty Girl’ & Cody Hoover. Great Grandchildren – Holly Brady, Christopher Brady, AJ Brown, Herbie Jack Cliver, Brooke Cliver, Bailey Brown, Xavier Brown, Kenton Meadows IV, Tucker Cliver, Sadie Cliver, Elijah Meadows, Kade Cliver, Marlowe Moore, Jacob Meadows, Isabella Hoover, Etta Cliver, Briley Hoover, Jacob & Cassie Brown, Joshua & Yasmine Brown and Jerimiah Brown; Great Great Grandchildren, Easton, Bayley, and Raylynn.
The family would like to thank Dr. ‘Teddy Bear’ Strickland and his special staff, as well as the staff at Montgomery General Hospital, including her ‘favorite’ Nurse Sharon, for the special care given to Sonjie.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 20th from 6pm to 8pm at Pennington’s Funeral Home in Gauley Bridge. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 21st beginning at 11am with graveside services to follow at Kanawha Memorial Gardens.
