Mrs. Sallie H. Aguilar (21 April 1924 – 13 September 2018)
Mrs. Sallie Aguilar of Charlton Heights, WV, died peacefully on 13 September 2018 surrounded by her dear family and loved ones at the Montgomery Rehab and Nursing Center. Sallie was born April 21, 1924, in Monterrey, Mexico to Thomas Seabrook Hunter and Maria Juana Gomez. After completing her education and earning a degree in business administration and the certificate of bilingual stenographer, Sallie worked as the manager of the American Airlines office in Monterrey.
She married Dr. Enrique Aguilar on May 18, 1946 at “La Purisima” church in Monterrey, Mexico and they shared 68 years of holy matrimony together. They experienced a life full of adventure by living in mining camps in Baja California without electricity, refrigerator or running water and later in Xichu, Guanajuato, Mexico. Sallie and Dr. Aguilar immigrated to Montgomery in 1954 with their two oldest children, Enrique and Sarita, and remained in the upper Kanawha Valley until the Lord called them home. She was a shining example for all of us and consistently stressed the importance of family, education, morals, manners, and fitness. An avid athlete, she enjoyed swimming, tennis, weight lifting and snow skiing. Sallie was a loving wife and a devoted mother who cherished her family above all else.
She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Dr. Enrique Aguilar, her sister, Elizabeth Hunter de Garza, brother Thomas Seabrook Hunter and grandson Roque Aguilar. She was the mother of five children, Enrique (wife Johana) from Hansford, WV; Sarita Fraser from Eugene, Oregon, Francisco Aguilar from Montgomery, Fernando (wife Kathy) from Albuquerque, NM and Ricardo (wife Catherine) from York, PA. She is also survived by a brother, Henry Peter Hunter of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; grandchildren Jamie Aguilar, Elizabeth Martin, Laura Hsu, Bron Aguilar, Nicolas Aguilar, Alejandro Aguilar and Victoria Aguilar and great grandchilren Lauren Aguilar, Aiden Aguilar, William Martin, Claire Martin, Amelia Hsu and Genevieve Hsu. A devout Christian, Sallie attended Saint Anthony's Shrine in Boomer for decades. All of us who knew our amazing mother will remember her cheerfulness, positive attitude, and selfless sacrifice for anyone in need. We will miss her dearly but are comforted in knowing that she is reunited with our dear father and her soulmate in heaven.
