Lucille (Adkins) Thomas

Lucille Adkins Thomas, 88, of Dixie, WV. passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV.

Born on August 20, 1926 in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Dana (Mullins) Adkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Pearl Walker, and baby sister Leone, brothers, Wilbert and Albert Adkins, brothers-in-law, Curtis Walker and Rex Walker, sister-in-law, Charlotte Adkins.

Surviors include her loving daughter, Shirley Karen Hughes and husband, Leo of Troy Oh, grandsons, Mark and Penny Hughes of Cortland, New York, Matthew and Holly Hughes of Locust Grove, Georgia, sisters, Gladys Walker of Chester, WV, Linda (Kellis) Osborne of Lizemores, WV, brothers, Gilbert (Carole) Adkins of Maineville, OH., Eddie Adkins of Sheffield Lake, OH., and sister-in-law, Donna Jean Adkins of Oak Hill. She is also survived by six step great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild, and three generations of nieces and nephews.

Lucille was a graduate of Clay County High School, Class of 1944, and a graduate of Glenville State College. She began her teaching career at an early age. She taught school in Clay and Nicholas Counties for over 35 years. She retired at Dixie Elementary School.

She was a member of the Ida Missionary Baptist Church for 57 years and a member of the West Virginia Education Association.

Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at 2 P.M. at the Pennington Funeral Home in Gauley Bridge with her Pastor Larry Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, WV.

Friends may call from 12:00 until 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
