Judith (Judy) Brown Obituary

Judith (Judy) Elaine Brown has passed on at the age of 76, after many years under the caring staff of the Montgomery Elderly Care facility. She arrived there far too early in life, but then again Judy was always one for a party. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine Eagle (Skaggs), and Leslie McClung, her sister Nancy Clark, and her ex-husbands Harvey Shinn and Dixon Brown.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Humphrey (Jerry), her son William Baird (Melissa); her granddaughters Ashley Belcher (Thomas), Casey Nottingham (Chris), Amelia Baird, and Ellie Baird; her great-grandchildren Madison, Addilyn, Annabel, Beau; her sisters Bonnie Chambers, Pat O’Quinn, and her ex-husband William Baird, and other beloved extended family and friends.

Judy’s life was tougher than she deserved, but it never broke her spirit. She was always quick to smile and laugh. She was kind, nonjudgemental, and willing to give people second chances, something our world seems too often lack. Those that knew her would recognize that she was her happiest when she returned home to Gauley Bridge and reasserted her independence, working side jobs and a constant figure at night at Go-Mart, making new friends all the while. She was a voracious reader, having read thousands of books. If you pick up an old paperback romance novel with some questionably dressed couple on the front and inside the cover it has JB or Judy written in it, smile, it’s probably one of hers. She loved fishing from Lake Erie down to the Gauley River over the years. She loved the great outdoors and had a passion for music, often listening louder than most people much younger than her could stand, from Janis Joplin to modern day rock & roll. She loved poker and the excitement of lotto tickets. Judy was incredibly smart, and to date no one has beaten her at Jeopardy, and well now you’ve all missed your chance, she’ll retire the at home Jeopardy watching champ. -And yes, to those that knew her Judy certainly loved some beer! Most of her life Judy found little ways to escape life’s harshness, and in that she did a wonderful job.

Judy did not want a service, she never wanted people to make a fuss over her, but she always mentioned that after she passed, to please listen to Stairway to Heaven and have a drink in her honor.  So, here’s to you Judy, may your soul find peace and love; and save us all a seat, we’ll catch up, but hopefully not for a good long while. Much love.
