Judith Ann Mitchell

Judith Ann Mitchell, 79, passed away July 17, 2014, in Henderson-ville, N.C. She was born May 6, 1935, in Richmond, Va., daughter to Ronald Frederick and Margaret Kincaid Atkins.She worked as a dental hygienist and was a dedicated mother, sister and wife. In retirement she volunteered and gave to local community organizations such as Opportunity House, the Humane Society, Therapy Dog and numerous birding programs with her husband, Reece. She will be remembered for never failing to appreciate the beauty around her in a sunset, flowers along her path, the birds she fed or the people she stopped to talk with.She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Reece Graham; daughter, Margaret Mitchell of Springfield, Ore.; son, Ronald Mitchell of Asheville, N.C.; her grandson, David; and her two brothers, John and Jerry Atkins of Charlton Heights, W.Va.The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at Thos. Shepherd Church Street Chapel, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, located at 125 S. Church St., Hendersonville, N.C., with Pastor Dan Martin officiating. A graveside service and burial will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.  Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, is in charge of local arrangements.  In lieu of flowers or food, memorials in her memory may be made to the Asheville Humane Society or Therapy Dog programs.An online register book is available for family and friends by visiting www.thosshepherd.com.
