John W Mays

John William Mays, 78, of Falls View, WV passed away August 9, 2024.  John had been in declining health, but his death was sudden and unexpected.  John was born on January 17, 1946, in Falls View, the son of Otho L. and Irene Williams Mays.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles Lee Mays of Falls View and Otho L. “Bill” Mays of Deshler, Ohio.  He is survived by two daughters, Donna Chilson of Mocksville, NC and Jennifer Hobbs of Murrells Inlet, SC­­­­­­­; four grandchildren; a sister, Betty Miller of Falls View; brothers James L. “Jim” Mays of Weston, FL, Frederick A. “Fred” Mays of Charlton Heights, WV, and Robert S. “Bob” Mays of Wilton Manors, FL; and by ten nieces and nephews.  John was a meat cutter by trade and worked for a number of years in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC before returning to West Virginia in 1997.  John loved all children, and they loved him.  During the last several years he especially enjoyed spending time with his “Little Buddy,” great-great nephew Zakary Walker. 

Services will be held at Falls View Presbyterian Church, 5351 Midland Trail, Falls View, WV, on Friday, August 23.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Robert Bane officiating.  Interment will follow at the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson, WV.  Memorial donations may be made to the Falls View Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 5, Charlton Heights, WV  25040.
