John Andrew "Newy" Harvey, 41, of Jodie, passed away at his home in the early hour of Saturday, April 23, 2016, after a long illness.
Born February 27, 1975, he was the son of Don Harvey and the late Elizabeth (Dotson) Harvey.
John was a graduate of Gauley Bridge High School, and spent many years serving his community as a volunteer firefighter and as an EMT. Shortly after graduating high Shool he joined the Navy, where he served as a hospital corpsman. John had three major loves in his life that he was dedicated to with a passion; his family, particulary his children, medicine and music. Up until death he was pursuing a degree to become an osteopathic physician and he had been a talented musician since he was a teenager.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann Harvey, and both sets of grandparents.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a daughter, Keelyn Harvey, and son, Liam Harvey, both of Gauley Bridge; brother, Anthony "Tony" Harvey (Becky) of Eleanor; sisters, Tamala "Tammy" Johnson of Jodie and Barva Queen (Tracy) of Charlton Heights; as well as many extended family members and friends.
John wished to be cremated and that his ashes be interred at Rich Creek Cemetery, near his mother's graveside.
A memorial service will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge.
