Evelyn Backus Obituary
Evelyn Carol Backus, 68, of Valley Fork, Clay County, passed away July 8, 2005, at Roane General Hospital after an extended illness.
Born on September 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Raleigh and Rebecca Mae Salisbury Summers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Dortha Ann Summers, and one brother, Walter R. "Bud" Summers.
She retired as a cook from Roane General Hospital after 18 years of service.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Terri Backus of Scott Depot; daughters and sons-in-law, June and Jim Brannon of Spencer, Shelia and Richard Harold of Spencer, and Kim and MSGT. Jerri Rogers of RAF Mildenhall, UK; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte Kay and Harry Grimmet of Sun City, AZ and sister-in-law, Terry Summers of Valley Fork.
Funeral service will be 12 noon Monday, July 11, 2005, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Wallback. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 am to 12 noon at the Church on Monday.
