Ethel Cole Obituary
Ethel Irene Cole, 88, of Glen Ferris, WV, peacefully slipped into Heaven Friday, May 20, 2011, in St. Mary's Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born May 12, 1923, in Swiss and was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Maggie L. Elswick. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Cole; brothers, Estell, Harold and Fred Elswick; sisters, Pauline Samples, Ilene Stanley and Peggy Jo Shelton.
Irene was a devoted wife and loving mother, homemaker, avid gardener, fisherman, and a faithful member of the River View Methodist Church for many years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Penny (Ric) Steiner of Huntington; her sisters, Ruby Elswick of Gauley Bridge, Reba Ball of Dixie, and Jean (Fritz) Winfree of Kitty Hawk, NC; grandchildren, Kent (Janis) Steiner of Osooyos, Canada; Amy (Ricky) Adkins of Huntington, and Sarah (Casper) Yu of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24th, with Jr. Cooper and Mark Skaggs officiating. Entombment will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, May 23rd, and one hour before the service on Tuesday, May 24th.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, The American Diabetes Association, or the River View Methodist Church, Glen Ferris.
