Elva Koch, 78, of Dixie, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born May 31, 1934 in Frame, WV, to the late James Hiram Shaffer and Savannah Katherine Green Shaffer. In addition to her parents, Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Koch, Sr., whom she married on August 2, 1952; grandchildren, Sarah and Adam; brothers and sisters, Alonza, Okey, Clifton, Lawson, Samuel, Mazie and Hazel.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and no words can ever express how much she will be missed. Elva received her education from schools in Texas, Arkansas, and West Virginia. She has been a Christian since February 14, 1965, joining the Church with her husband. She attended Belle Creek Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Her personal passion was collecting bells and sand.
Elva is survived by her children; Deborah (Dencil) Brown of Williamstown, Linda (Donald) Philpott of Radcliff, KY, Gwendolyn (Julian) Paco of Albuquerque, NM, James Jr. (Roeaster) Koch of Dixie, Ronald (Patricia) Koch of Washington, NC, Sandra (Bud) Humphreys of Cross Lanes, and Rebecca (Timothy) McQuillin of Rineyville, KY; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 pm Monday, January 28, 2013 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge with Reverend Thurman Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
