Douglas L. Valentine, 56, of Cannelton, went home to be with the angels and his parents on June 30, 2014.
Born on February 13, 1958, in Montgomery, he was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hazel Valentine; mother, Ruth Stepp; and brother, Bryan A. Stepp.
He was a life-long resident of Cannelton and a retired coal truck driver. He was a graduate of Valley High School and attended Glen Ferris Apostolic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Diana Valentine; daughters, Heather (Henry) Craig of Watertown, CT and Brittany Valentine (Chris Elkins) of Dunbar; grandsons, Ian Henry of Watertown, CT, who wanted “Papaw’s” shoes for his birthday, William and Tyler Elkins of Dunbar, whose famous question was “Got any candy Papaw”; brother, Robert L. (Brenda) Valentine, Jr. of Kanawha Falls; sisters, Patty (Doug) Harold of Durham, NC and Doris Valentine of Cannelton; brothers, Tony (Cheryl) Stepp, Gary Stepp, Chris (Tina) Stepp and Bill Stepp, all of Chilicothe, OH.
He was a big hearted man who loved his family and was a hero to his “Daddy’s girls”.
His passing leaves a huge void in all our hearts.
Funeral service will be 11 am Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Minister Aaron Valentine officiating. Entombment will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
