Doris Jean Allen Chaffins, of Falls View, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026. Born on October 8, 1934, in Martin County, Kentucky, Doris spent more than 70 years in the Falls View community she proudly called home. Her life was marked by faith, devotion to family, service to others, and friendships that spanned generations.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Chaffins, and her daughter, Kay Thomas.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Arbogast and husband Jamie; her son, Dennis Chaffins and wife Julia; and her eight grandchildren: Holly Winter, Carrie Williams, Faith Thomas and husband Brian, Alisha Weese, Scott Arbogast, Katie Workman and husband Luke, Tyler Chaffins and wife Ashley, and Hannah Rowe and husband Scott.
She was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and two more great-great-grandchildren on the way. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and carry forward the love, faith, and values she instilled in each generation.
A lifelong member and Elder of Falls View Presbyterian Church, Doris lived her faith through service, kindness, and dedication to her community. She worked as the Service Manager at Sears in Montgomery, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit.
Doris had many passions throughout her life. She loved spending time at the beach, fishing, reading, sewing, quilting, and volunteering at the Montgomery Public Library. She was an avid bowler and participated in numerous bowling leagues over the years, continuing to bowl occasionally well into her late 80s.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of the caregivers, friends, and hospice staff who provided care, comfort, and support during Doris’s final days. A special acknowledgment goes to her dear friend, Doris Spencer, who remained by her side until just hours before her passing. Your kindness, loyalty, and friendship will never be forgotten. We love you, Jack.
While Doris will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Jack, her daughter, Kay, and the many loved ones who went before her.
