Dennis Leon Preast, 83, of Jodie, West Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 14, 2024, surrounded by family. Born on November 30, 1940, he was the son of the late Cecil and Lula Preast.
Dennis proudly served as a pastor for many of the local Baptist churches throughout his life. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and retired from the Union Carbide mines in Sanderson, West Virginia.
Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carol Jean (Boles) Preast, in 2014. The family rejoices in the reunion that must have occurred when he joined her in Heaven at last. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol, and his brother Tom Preast.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Mary (Gaylord) Taylor and Carolyn (the late Paul) Young; brothers, Dencil (Audrey) Preast, David (Evie) Preast, Howard (Kathy) Preast, Jerry (Janice) Preast, and Cecil (Nancy) Preast; children, Jeff Preast and Andrea (Eddie) Eskew; grandchildren, Jeffery (Caitlyn) Preast and Matthew (Eve) Coleman; great-grandchildren, Jacob Tyler Coleman (mother Brittany Tolliver), Elizabeth Jean Coleman, Sawyer Wayne Coleman, Magnolia Preast, and Brooks Preast; step-grandchildren, Matthew (Missy) Eskew, Scott Eskew, and Allison (Chris) Truhe; step great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Eskew, Mattie Eskew, Nikki Eskew, Gabriel Eskew, and Alex Truhe; and his and Carol’s beloved dog, Precious.
A service to honor Dennis’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for friends and family at Pennington Smith Funeral Home in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia. Following the service, Dennis will be laid to rest at Rich Creek Cemetery.
Nephews Donnie Preast, Joe Young, and Jay Boles; grandson Jeffery Preast; great-nephews Shane and Jeremy Burnette; and friend Steve Gross will have the honor of serving as pallbearers.
Dennis Preast will be remembered as a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His faith, wisdom, and the warmth of his company will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
