David Richard "Big Dave" Roop

David Richard "Big Dave" Roop, 60, of Gauley Bridge passed onto glory on May 11, 2024, at home.

Big Dave was quick-witted, kindhearted, generous and always brought joy and laughter wherever he went. One of his greatest joys was as a manager, scorekeeper and all-around utility man for the Gauley Bridge Travellers from 1979 until the closing of the school in 2006. He loved sports and was a diehard Mountaineer fan. He had an amazing mind for numbers, facts and statistics. Most importantly, he was a born-again Christian.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold and Rita Johnson Roop and a brother, Timothy John 'TJ' Roop.

Surviving is his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Frankie Roop of St. Albans; aunts; cousins; nieces and nephews, which he dearly loved.

In keeping with Dave's final requests, his cremation wishes will be honored and there will be a celebration of life memorial to be announced at a later date. Please contact his brother, Stephen at roopstephen@yahoo.com for the information.

Memorial Service will be at 6:00 pm Monday, May 20,2024 with a visitation one hour prior to the service 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Pennington Smith Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, WV.
