Mescal 'Fern' Osborne, age 84, went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2013 after a short illness. She spent her final days in the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley in the care of the wonderful staff with visits from many family and friends. She has joined her husband, Hobert Arnold Osborne and infant daughter, Geraldine Fern, for a joyous homecoming.

Fern is the daughter of the late Homer and Nora Gillespie of Rainelle. She was predeceased by her brothers Clifford, Robert, Don and sisters Pansy and Letha.

Fern was a member of the Jodie Baptist Church where she served as pianist for over forty years. Fern was a retired postmaster from the Belva Post Office and most recently a member of the Nicholas County CEO's. She continued to be active with gardening and serving others until her recent decline.

Left to celebrate her memory are her daughter, Judy Eggleston, of Hendersonvile, NC and Joey Lanham of Belva; grandchildren, Brad Eggleston of Black Mountain, NC and Kara Brooks (Jason) of Richmond, VA.; great-grandchildren, Cohl Peyton Brooks and Jason Brooks Jr.; five sisters Zelda Turner of Harvard, Illinois, Lillian Kincaid of Perrysville, Ohio, Elsie Pillow of Richmond, VA, Violet Aldridge of Lewisburg, WV and Lenore Highlander of Rainelle, WV; a host of nieces and nephews and many precious friends and neighbors. Pallbearers to serve will be family and friends.

A celebration of her life and funeral service will occur 4 pm Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Jodie Baptist Church in Jodie, WV with Pastor Larry Halsey officiating and Don McLaughlin assisting. Family and friends are invited to visit one hour prior to the service at the church. A fellowship dinner hosted by the church congregation will follow the funeral services. The family wishes to thank all of those who have shown their care through calls, visits and prayer over the recent weeks. A special thank you the Bowers House staff for their attentive comfort care.
