God called another angel home on Tuesday, December 24, 2013.
Robert Lee Valentine, Sr., life-long resident of Cannelton went home to be with his loving wife, Hazel Ann (Auxier)Valentine.
He was a member of Belle Creek Pentecostal Church and a retired coal miner with 30 years service for Cannelton Industries. Robert was a devoted family man and Christian who loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
Born August 3, 1934, he was the son of the late Jake and Blanche (Totten) Valentine.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He is the last of seven children.
Robert is survived by his sons, Douglas L. Valentine and wife, Diane of Cannelton, and Robert L. Valentine, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Kanawha Falls; daughters, Patty A. Harold and husband, Doug of Durham, NC and Doris Valentine of Cannelton; five grandchildren, Heather Henry and husband, Craig of Watertown, CT, Aaron Valentine and wife, Deanna of Charlton Heights, Brittany Valentine and Chris Elkins of Dunbar, Kristin King and husband, David of Lizemores, and Moriah Valentine of Kanawha Falls; four great-grandchildren, Ian Henry, William and Tyler Elkins, and Kennedy Valentine, who knew him as "Big Papaw".
He never met a stranger and was always willing to help family and friends, alike. His absence will be felt by many. His presence in Heaven will have the angels rejoicing. Robert was quick to let you know of his faith in God and would say, "Praise the Lord" when things went right, and never hesitated to ask for a prayer when needed. Through it all, "there was always love in Daddy's Hands."
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Reverend David Bounds and Aaron Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
Friends may call the funeral home on Sunday from 6-9.
