Reverend Orville "Red" Simmons, 95, of Drennan passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in the comfort of his home.
He was a preacher and a member of the Church of God, Alta, a retired coal miner and a veteran of the United States Army with services in World War II.
Born August 9, 1918 in Gauley Bridge, he was the son of the late Christopher and Chessie (Fitzwater) Simmons.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Paul Simmons.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Lucy (Stewart) Simmons of Drennan; children, Betty Harris of MO, Thomas Simmons of MO, Hersal Simmons of TX, Etheal Johnson of MO, William Simmons of MO, Sue Simmons of MO, Jacqueline Lorentz of Swiss, Curtis Simmons of Swiss, Mary Odom of OH and Joseph Simmons (Michelle) of Gilbo; 43 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will take place at 2 PM on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Church of God, Alta with Reverend Paul Young and Reverend Dennis Preast officiating. Burial will follow at Holcomb Cemetery, Lizemores.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
