Boomer Ray Plumley, 93, died on March 18, 2011, at the Hidden Valley Nursing Home, Oak Hill, WV, with his children by his side.
Boomer was born in Pear, WV, on May 8, 1917, to Virginia Katherine Bennett Plumley and William Lemon Plumley. He was the eldest son of 13 children.
He married Violet "Tiny" Patton on August 2, 1940, in Bristol, TN. She preceded him in death in 2010. He was a member of Boomer Baptist Church most of his life. Boomer joined the CCCs when he was 17 and was with them for 6 years where he was educated and taught in several areas such as taxidermy, photography, horticulture, masonry, barbering among many others.
He retired from Alloy (Union Carbide Metals Division) after 39 years working as an overhead crane operator.
Boomer was preceded in death by his parents, wife, baby daughter Debra Ann, grandson Steven Wallace; brothers Eulis, James, Harold and sisters Letha, Olabell, Freda and Reva.
He is survived by his children: Carolyn Sue Stanley (spouse David) Beckley; Judith Kay Brown (Fred) Charlton Heights; Ronald R. Plumley, Lithia, FL; Barbara Ann Boyd (Duffy); Mark Alan Plumley (Beth) Charlton Heights. His surviving grandchildren are Jean Brown, Beckley, Samuel E. Brown, M.D., Jacksonville, FL, Matthew S. Brown, Esq., Ponte Vedra Bch, FL, Michael Wallace, Fayetteville, Beth Ann Wilkens, San Franciso, CA, Ronald Jason Plumley, Lithia, FL, Sarah Lynn Boyd, Fayetteville, Aaron Plumley, NC, and Justin Plumley, NC, Evelyn Plumley, Charlton Heights, and nine great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
He is survived by his brothers Beecher and Howard Plumley and sisters Audry Baker, Charlene McKibben, Mary McKinney and many nieces and nephews.
Boomer was a strong, gentle and patient man who was an avid horticulturalist, stone mason, hunter and woodsman who was loved by all. We know of no enemies.
Boomer's wake will be at Pennington Funeral Home on Monday March 21, 2011 beginning at 5pm for family and from 6 until 8pm for all. Graveside service will be at Montgomery Memorial Park, Route 60, London, WV on Tuesday March 22, 2011 at 11am officiated by Rev. Jack Pittman.
