Lonnie R. Moore, 88, of Boomer, entered into rest October 30, 2011, at Montgomery General Extended Care.
Born on August 31, 1923, in Lizemores, he was the son of the late John B. and Lillian Rogers Moore. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, June Moore; brothers, Harold, Carl and Delmas; sisters, Gay, Glenna and Ruby; great-grandson, Bohdi Moore and great-granddaughter, Kirsten Vitallo.
He worked for D. B. Benda and Sons at Alloy, was a member of Boomer Baptist Church, a World War II Army Veteran , a prisoner of war during World War II, a recipient of the Purple Heart, and a member of the Ansted VFW Post 7695.
Survivors include his wife, Della Wanda Moore of Boomer; sons, Lonnie R. Moore Jr. of Apple Creek, OH, Lee (Doris) Moore of Apple Creek, Keith (Cindy) Moore of Hagerstown, MD and Bill (Mary) Taylor of Rock Hill, SC; daughter, Linda (Arlie) Johnson of Shreve, OH; brother, Gene (Mary) Moore of Smithers; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to dear friends, Terry and Archie Truman, the staff on 2nd and 3rd floors at Montgomery General Hospital, Pastor and Mrs. Neeson, and members of the Boomer Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be 1 pm Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Boomer Baptist Church with Pastor James Neeson officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow with military graveside rites conducted by Ansted VFW Post 7695. Friends may call from 6 to 8 Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Thursday.
