Larry Dean McLaughlin, 60, of Ivydale, WV, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006, at CAMC from pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born December 4, 1945, in Gassaway, WV, to the late Gory and Effie McLaughlin of Ivydale. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Allen McLaughlin.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his farm and his hobbies.
He was retired from WCI Steel in Youngstown, OH. He was a Vietnam Veteran and an active member of Clay VFW Post 4419 where he served as Senior Vice Commander. He was on the Board of Directors of the N. H. Dyer Health Department.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joyce Sawyers McLaughlin; son, Larry McLaughlin, Jr and wife , Jessica, of Sharon, PA; daughter, Twila Jo Micchia and husband, Tom, of Wake Forest, NC. He leaves behind his pride and joy, his granddaughters, Ava Raine McLaughlin and Avery Lynne Micchia. He is also survived by his brother, Gory Gene McLaughlin and wife, Joni, of Charleston, WV; sister, Fran King of Ivydale, WV; nieces, Christina King of Ivydale and Genalee Moore of Charleston; and his close friends at VFW Post 4419.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Monday, May 22, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. Burial will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Larry requested that donations be made to the Clay VFW Post 4419, c/o Paul Parsons, 44 Sycamore Street, Clay, WV 25043 to help construct the new veterans memorial in Clay.
