Adrian H. (Punch) Legg, 82, of Bickmore, entered into rest Friday, January 13, 2006, at his home after a long illness.
Born on May 6, 1923, at Bickmore, he was the son of the late William C. and Mamie Osborne Legg. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; sister, Reba Legg Lockhart; brothers, Kelly and Lennis; and granddaughters, Cheryl Hamrick and Chelsey Legg.
He was retired from Elkem Metals, Alloy, WV, and was a member of the Fola Baptist Church and Clay VFW Post 4419. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving on the U.S. Houghton. On Jan. 2, 1944, his ship was torpedoed, and he spent 2 l/2 hours in the Arabian Sea before being rescued by a Norwegian Tanker. He served in the Navy from April 2, 1943 to Dec. 12, 1945.
He is survived by eight children and their spouses; Ronnie and Polly of Ravenna, OH; Carol and Darrell Hamrick of Canvas, WV, Shirley and Kenneth Jarvis of Reno, OH, John and Diana, Brent and Reba, and Pat and Melissa, all of Fola, Henson and Judy of Bickmore, and Joe of Monroe, NC; grandchildren; Herb, Jerry and Shelby Legg, Tim, Brian and Brett Hamrick, Missy Bruns, Cortney Legg and Becky Legg Beasley, Tad, Chet and Montana Legg, and Joanne Nine, Michelle Knotts, Chris Legg and Amy Osborne, Holly Legg and Demi Legg; 15 great-grandchildren and a special niece, Donna Jo Asbury.
Funeral service will be 1 pm Monday, January 16, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Tom Price officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, with graveside military rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 on Sunday at the funeral home.
