Donald R. "Firpo" Jones, of Clay, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 31st, after a long illness. He was 87 years old.
Donald was a member of Lick Fork Free Will Baptist Church and the Local VFW Post 4419. Before retirement, Donald was active in the Clay County Parks and Recreation and the Clay County Garden Delicious Apple Festival. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II in England and France. He was retired from Cedar Coal Company.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Newman and Virgie Jones, a brother, Casey Jones, and a grandson, James Donald Gency.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Thelma Ramsey Jones; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Joe and Bertha Jones of Red House and Gary James and Elizabeth Jones of Hurricane; daughters and sons-in-law,, Jackie and Pat Hoffman of Summersville and Sharon and John Gency of Elkview; brothers, Ernest Jones of Gassaway and Buren Jones of Charleston; sisters, Delcie Long of Gassaway and Gloria Baldwin of Charleston; grandchildren, Jeffrey and David Hoffman, Gregory Gency, Pamela Tucker, Robert Jones, Amy Hodges, Andrea Parkins, and Jason Jones; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Gency, Mason, Jake and Zsiah Tucker, Clair and Deirdre Hoffman, Benjamin Hodges and Willa Parkins.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Rev. Tommy Price officiating. Burial will be follow in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, WV, with military rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 9 pm on Friday, June 2, 2006, at the funeral home.
