NORMA JEAN BIRD EVANS - went home to be with the Lord February 23, 2008 at home. She was born on June 12, 1927, in Lizemore, Clay County, and she was the daughter of the late Robert Thornton Bird and Neva H. Nichols Bird. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Horace Lee Evans, and her eldest sister, Lenora Durham.

She was a wonderful cook, preparing delicious meals for her family. When summer came, there was always a bountiful garden and hundreds of jars of produce to can each year. Each jar was canned with love, to share with her family and friends.

Jean is survived by her son, Michael Lee Evans of Duck, WV; her daughter, Loita Butcher and husband, Samuel Butcher, of Duck, WV; daughter, Clarita Fisher and husband Nelson Fisher of Ripley, WV; grandchildren Sam Butcher and wife, Cori Butcher of Port Richey, Florida; Andy Butcher of Lewisburg, WV; Alex Butcher of Duck, WV; Keith Fisher and wife Marie of Fort Benning, Georgia; Presley Fisher of Ripley; great-grandchildren Abigail, Wesley and Tiffany Butcher of Port Richey, Florida; Kaley Cook, Kristen Cook and Kaleb Fisher of Fort Benning, Georgia; and Camron Fisher of Teays Valley, WV; sisters Kat Moore and husband Ed of Lizemore; Jewel Elliott and husband George of Lizemore, WV; Carole Sizemore and husband Kenneth of Blazdell, NY; Patty Jones and husband Randy of Lizemore, WV; brothers Thurston Bird and wife Esta, of Procious, WV; Thurman Bird and wife, Macil of Lizemore, WV; Charles Bird and wife Doris of Lizemore, WV; Jerry Brid of Ivydale, WV.

God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be. He closed His arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me." In tears we saw you sinking, we watched you fade away. Our hearts were almost broken you fought so hard to stay. But when we saw you sleeping so peacefully free from pain, we could not wish you back to suffer so again. So keep Your arms around her, Lord, and give her special care make up for all she suffered and let her know we care.

Special thanks to the caregivers; Angie Fugate, Wanda Workman , Margaret Mollohan, Joyce McGlothlin and Brenda Truman, who provided so much loving care and compassion throughout the years of mom's illness.

A celebration of Jean's life will take place on Sunday, February 24, at Wilson Shamblin Funeral Home in Clay. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home,with Minister Thurman Sizemore and Minster Nick Bird officiating. Burial will be in the O'Brion Advent Christian Cemetery at O'Brion Creek.
