Varis Lee Canfield, Sr., 81, of Ivydale, a beloved husband and father, entered into rest February 7, 2007, at his home after a long illness.
Born on July 10, 1925, in Widen, he was the son of the late Carl Lee and Grace Stockwell Canfield. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Canfield, and sister, Gladys Canfield Cottrell.
He was a retired coal miner with 36 years of service in the mining industry. He retired from Majestic Mining Company, was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the UMWA, Clay VFW Post 4419, and a Baptist by faith.
Surviving are his wife, Ingfrid Karin Canfield of Ivydale; daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and David Tucker of Ivydale, and Darlene and Ephrim Caban, MD, of Ocala, FL; sons, Varis L. Canfield and his fiancee, Rita Anderson, of Ivydale; Richard Canfield of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Greta and Shane Owens, Jason D. Tucker, Kevin Lee Canfield, Nathan, Lindsey, Christian, Natalie, and Amy Caban; great-grandchildren, Seth and Gage Owens.
Funeral service will be 1 pm Friday, February 9, 2007, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Dewey Tanner officiating. Burial will follow in the Canfield Cemetery, Ivydale. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to HospiceCare, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.
